Consult the Calendar: Training & Events

C4RJ staff, volunteers, and board put on events year-round. We’ve hosted information sessions on youth risk behavior, shown art exhibits, and invited guest speakers. We routinely train new volunteers and police departments. Here’s a list of upcoming events.

Restorative Justice at the Canadian Truth and
Reconciliation Commission, A Coffee Hour
August 19, 2010 4-6 p.m. Concord PD, 3rd Floor

A senior C4RJ volunteer will speak about her experience working with the Canadian Truth and Reconciliation Commission earlier this summer. She served as a "witness" to the stories of aboriginal/indigenous adults who -- as young people -- were forced to attend government- and church-sponsored schools that were culturally repressing. Her experience will shed light on another use of restorative justice. The event is free and open to the public but please RSVP to help us plan. If you're interested, send an email to info@c4rj.com and we'll count you in the number. This press release contains more detail. Feel free to email this pdf postcard invitation to friends.

Victim Awareness and Sensitivity Training (Spring/Summer 2010)
Training will occur within individual teams among experienced volunteers and will focus on the particular needs of victims, and do's and don'ts when engaging with those who have been harmed by crime.

C4RJ Police Council (by invitation)
September 2nd 12.30-2 p.m. Ayer Police Department
Quarterly meeting of the Police Council to offer periodic feedback on process, procedure and policy from a police perspective, to share best practices among police partners.

C4RJ Annual Meeting
November 4th, 2010 7-9 p.m. (location TBD)
A time to celebrate the year in review and to anticipate new milestones.

Introductory Training for New Volunteers
November 12-13, 2010 (tent.; needs will be assessed in early Fall)
Training will take place on Friday 6.30-9.00 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.-
3.30 p.m. All prospective volunteers are interviewed prior to training and recruiting emphasis may narrow, depending upon program needs. Interested? Click here to learn more about volunteering at C4RJ and to find a link to a pdf application.

Also Coming in 2010 (details forthcoming)
Cultural Awareness Training (experienced C4RJ volunteers)
Domestic Violence Awareness Training (experienced C4RJ volunteers)

Introduction to Restorative Justice Police Training
January 2011 (TBD in cooperation with police departments)

Training will introduce participants to the principles of restorative justice, the "circle" format employed at C4RJ, the role of a police officer, and referral steps. Co-trainers are a police officer familiar with restorative justice, Jennifer Larson Sawin (C4RJ Executive Director) and Christy Barbee (C4RJ Chief Case Coordinator). If you're an officer interested in attending, send an email to info@C4RJ.com or call 978.318.3447.
